HOW SGR IS SINKING THE ECONOMY OF MOMBASA.

Kenya is known to be one of the fastest developing country in Eastern Africa region. With the incoming of Jubilee government Kenyans had alot of trust that many changes would occurred as they have stated great promises in their manifesto. Stardard Guage modern Railway is of the achievement of Uhuruto government that would never fade away in kenyans minds. This push Kenya further nearer to achieving vision 2030 goals. The first phase of SGR link the largest cities in the country, Mombasa and Nairobi.
With the introduction of this modern means of transport, coastal people had in their mind that SGR will benefits them fully especially in terms of employment, growths of business and even reduce cost of transportation.
But remember all that glitters is not gold ,the coastal region especially Mombasa have nothing to cherished about this fruit of Jubilee government. With the coming of stardard Guage railway the economy of Mombasa has been generally declining.
Despite the fact that the Stardard Guage Railway reduce the cogestion in the Mombasa city by reducing the number long distance cargo trucks. But they forget that their were people depending on that  business for instance drivers. My big question is where will all this people go? They also have children and families to feed them and educate. Do not forget Mombasa town and market heavily rely on long distance drivers for business opportunities for instance hotels, lodging,bars and garages. All of this business are slowly fading off due to lack of customers.

According to CFSA (Cargo Freight Station) chief executive officer Daniel Nzeki says in interview with Stardard paper that 50% Cargo Freight Stations workers translating to 3000 have been laid off fallowing the impact of both expansion of port and the introduction of Stardard Guage Railway .Workers mainly from Mombasa have been greatly affected due to significant reduction of cargo volumes.
As this was not enough the government relocate Cargo haulage to capital city Nairobi. Road transports, clearing and forwarding that used to be done in port of Mombasa were shifted to Kenya Port Authority in Embakasi Inland Container. This left Mombasa economy totally death as this businesses was the backbone to their economy. In order to make sure that trucks were eradicated the government forcefully push cargo owners to use SGR to transport their goods,ofwhich should be the owners choice on which mode of transport to use.
The sudden raise of crime rate in Mombasa region is due to the introduction of SGR. Unemployment being root to all this vice. Youths opted to this as a better way of earning their living since SGR has fail them.
The Coastal leaders should not assume this at all this right time to come together in one voice in order to save their county economy which is slowly declining.
